Fashionable

Standard

I’m not the most fashion forward person. I’m a jeans and tee shirt girl like no other, and if the jeans & tee shirts are on sale so much better. The only place I’m mistaken for being fashionable is in the medical setting, because matching clothes apparently takes skill (?)

I’m not one to really seek out fashion advice either but I’m feeling rather vain so here’s my problem.

For the longest time I wore two AFOs.

Then no AFOs.

Then back again.

And back again.

I alternated between really ugly knee socks,

and plain old white shorter socks.

One of the best things that’s ever happened in my life is when knee socks became more popular, and then if just by chance more fashionable.

Now I have a drawer full of cool socks, and nothing else.
(Because nothing else will fit in that particular drawer)

But these days I’m down to one AFO.

Progress, yes, but it leaves me with my current dilemma.

Last year I didn’t have to wear my AFO. This gave me an opportunity to rediscover shorts, a simple article of clothing, but one I had not worn in 5-8 years for various reasons (except for VERY rare occasions).

I bought something like 3 new pairs of shorts last summer, which pretty much doubled the number of pairs I owned; which is pretty much a big motivation behind wanting to be AFO free.

If you were in my situation with one AFO & one free foot, what would you do when it comes to shorts?

-Wear matching long socks
(which I have to be honest makes me feel like a poser soccer or rugby player)

-Wear one long sock and one short sock & match them as best as possible
(which would double the pairs of socks I have)

-Wear one long sock and one short sock & not care if they match
(which I worry may make me look a little crazy, pretty literally)

What are your thoughts?

How fashionable should I be?

  1. When I had one AFO I did one long and one short and matched them. Most of the time I had white long socks though so it wasn’t as hard. It is a dilemma!

  2. I ‘think’ I’d do what Molly said. You will be in better shape to not let vanity overtake you. Doesn’t appear to be much chance of that – you are very sensible. For myself, I long ago diagnosed myself as fashion-challenged. Take my comment with a grain of salt. (Rome?!) Barbara
